Every infection we test for
Nine infections, one table. Click through for symptoms, testing detail and treatment on each.
| Infection | How it hides | Sample | Outlook |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chlamydia | Usually silent | Urine or swab | Cured with antibiotics |
| Gonorrhoea | Often silent | Urine or swab | Cured with an injection plus tablets |
| Syphilis | Easy to miss | Blood | Cured with penicillin |
| HIV | Silent for years | Blood | Treatable, normal life expectancy |
| Hepatitis B | Often silent | Blood | Preventable by vaccine, manageable |
| Herpes (HSV) | Blisters come and go | Swab of a lesion | Manageable with antivirals |
| Warts (HPV) | Visible lumps | Examination | Treatable, vaccine prevents |
| Trichomonas | Silent in men | Urine or swab | Cured with antibiotics |
| M. genitalium | Often silent | Urine or swab | Cured with guided antibiotics |
Most of these cause no symptoms for long stretches, which is why screening exists. Silent never means harmless.
When to test after an exposure
Every test has a window period, the stretch after exposure when infection cannot be detected yet. This chart is why the doctor asks for your dates.
When can you test? Check your dates.
Every infection has a window period before a test becomes reliable. Pick the date of the encounter you are thinking about and see where you stand today. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
How soon after exposure each test becomes reliable
Days after exposure. Test earlier and a negative result may need repeating.

The consult is R650, paid upfront by cash or card, and it includes the doctor's assessment, your first blood results and a script if treatment is needed. Lancet bills the laboratory tests separately, and most patients claim both back from their medical aid.
It depends on your history, which is why the visit starts with a private consult rather than a menu. A typical panel covers HIV, syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhoea, with hepatitis B, trichomonas, mycoplasma and lesion testing added where your situation calls for them.
Most results are back within one to three working days. HIV, syphilis and hepatitis B bloods usually return within 48 hours. The doctor contacts you as soon as everything is in and explains what each result means.
Booking ahead keeps the waiting room quiet, which is the point of the service. WhatsApp or the booking form usually gets you an appointment within the week at Milnerton or Table View, and you never have to say why you are coming in.
Yes. If anything is found, the same doctor treats you, scripts are emailed, partners can be advised without blame, and a recheck at three months confirms everything has cleared. You are not handed a result and left to figure out the rest.
