Men's Hormone Health (TRT)
Men's hormone health at PVT is doctor-led assessment and treatment of low testosterone, using validated symptom scoring, morning blood tests and monitored testosterone therapy where it is indicated.
Fatigue that sleep does not fix. Libido that has quietly gone missing. Workouts that stopped paying off. These can be symptoms of low testosterone, and low testosterone is measurable and treatable.
R650 first visit, R450 follow-up
Overview
Testosterone declines gradually in most men, but in some it falls far enough to cause real symptoms: persistent fatigue, low libido, erectile difficulty, flat mood, reduced muscle and a loss of drive. The only way to know whether testosterone is the cause is to measure it properly.
Assessment at PVT uses a validated symptom questionnaire alongside morning blood tests, because testosterone peaks early in the day and an afternoon result can mislead. Your doctor also runs a safety baseline, checking the markers that must be normal before therapy is considered, including prostate and red blood cell parameters.
If low testosterone is confirmed and therapy is appropriate for you, treatment is started and then monitored on a fixed schedule. Initiation follows the follow-up package: R650 for the first visit and R450 for the follow-up about a month later, billed separately at each visit. Once you are stable, routine reviews are R650.
What happens at a hormone consult
Why we draw bloods before 10am
Testosterone peaks early and slides through the day. The same man can look deficient at 4pm and normal at 8am, so we only diagnose on morning values.
Symptom review
A structured conversation plus a validated questionnaire, so symptoms are scored rather than guessed at.
Baseline examination
A focused examination establishing your baseline before any treatment decision.
Morning bloods via Lancet
Targeted blood tests drawn in the morning, when testosterone is at its peak, including the safety markers therapy depends on.
Eligibility and safety check
Your doctor reviews results against clinical criteria and your health history to confirm therapy is appropriate and safe for you.
Treatment plan and monitoring
If therapy is started, it comes with a written plan and scheduled monitoring bloods, so dosing is adjusted on evidence rather than feel.
Frequently asked
For men with confirmed low testosterone and a normal safety baseline, therapy prescribed and monitored by a doctor has a well-established safety profile. The key is the monitoring: prostate markers, red blood cell counts and hormone levels are rechecked on a schedule, and dosing is adjusted or paused if anything moves out of range.
It can. Testosterone therapy suppresses the signals that drive sperm production, so it is not recommended for men actively trying to conceive. If fertility matters to you now or later, tell your doctor. There are alternative approaches that support your own production instead, and this is discussed before anything is prescribed.
With scheduled blood tests. The first recheck happens about a month after starting, then at regular intervals once stable. Monitoring covers testosterone levels, red blood cell counts and prostate markers, alongside a symptom review, so the dose is always matched to evidence.
It varies, and no specific outcome can be promised. In published studies, changes in libido and mood tend to be reported earlier, over weeks, while changes in body composition and energy tend to take months. Your one-month follow-up is where early progress is reviewed.
Yes, please. Old results, even from years back, give your doctor a baseline to compare against and can save you a repeat test. Bring printouts, PDFs or the lab SMS, whatever you have.
Then testosterone is not the explanation, and that is genuinely useful to know. Your doctor looks at the other measurable causes of your symptoms, such as thyroid function, sleep, iron status, mood and medication effects, and either treats what is found or refers you appropriately.
